CONINGSBY CHAROLAIS |
| The
Coningsby herd of pedigree British Charolais cattle was established in
autumn 2000 with foundation stock from the Mortimers, Bassingbourn and
Reddivallen herds.
We enjoyed considerable early success at shows and sales and have sold several bulls at the Perth sales. The Coningsby herd has been awarded the South Eastern Charolais Association's prize for best small herd in 2005, 2006 and 2008 (the competition was not judged in 2007 due to FMD restrictions in the region). In autumn 2008 we took the decision to expand the herd and we have purchased some in-calf and bulling heifers from the Silver and Mortimers herds. Our objective is to run a high genetic merit, high health status herd, producing quality breeding stock for sale through the Society sales and privately from the farm. We retain only the very best females for breeding and take on only bulls with exceptional potential. All other stock are sold locally. Females are selected for growth, capacity, ease of calving and temperament. Sires are selected for muscling, growth and ease of calving. All AI sires have a beef value in the top 10% of the national herd. The herd has a very high health status, being accredited free of Johnnes, IBR and BVD and tested clear of TB at our four-yearly test in December 2008. All breeding females are vaccinated for BVD IBR and Lepto and all cattle have been vaccinated for BTV8. Highlights from our
breeding during the past few years include: |
